ASSISTANT MANAGER

As Muskoka North Good Food Co-op enters an exciting expansion phase, we are seeking an energetic, outgoing and experienced new team member. The Assistant Manager position requires having alignment with our Co-op’s values, food and wellness knowledge, managerial experience, and positive daily interaction and communication with customers, staff, and producers/vendors. This full-time position is for someone seeking long-term employment and career development in the Good Food Co-op with the goal to transition into the General Management position as our current General Manager pivots into the organization’s newly developed Executive Director role. The Assistant Manager will have full mentoring, teaching and support until a solid base is developed to move into General Management. Together, the Executive Director and General Manager will be responsible for the Co-op’s overall strategic direction, business planning and operational performance and will ensure that the needs of our members, staff and community are achieved. Our Co-op’s size and scope is changing but our passion for sourcing highest quality products, many from local suppliers, will not waiver. The Co-op promotes creative development and outside-the-box thinking in strategic decision-making. Our newly developed Strategic and Expansion Plan is the exciting framework that will guide development and action.

Position starting wage: $22.60/hr (Salary and contract to be negotiated at 3 month mark)

SALES CLERK/BARISTA

The Good Food Co-op is looking for an energetic, outgoing and hard-working front of house team member to assist with our growing Co-operative Grocery Market, Cafe & Bakery, and Espresso Bar. We’re looking for a dynamic team member who has the intention and desire to find long-term employment. This full time position is diverse in nature. At the Co~op, we promote creativity, out-of-the-box thinking, and encourage staff to lead. An acute interest and passion for healthy eating and living, and a close alignment to our co-operative values are a great asset.


Position starting wage: $19.65/hr

Full-time: 30-40 hrs/week

Other areas of interest and key experience for this position:

The Co-op is small and can be very busy. Our staff team has a multi-faceted approach to running the day. Staff have their own specialized positions; however, we cross-train so everyone has the ability to do a little of everything in case back-up support is needed. We help and support one another however and whenever we can.


The following experience is an asset, but not essential:

  • Experience in the food/cafe/grocery industry
  • Barista skills
  • Basic to great understanding of health(y) food, nutrition and wellness, and a passion to continue learning, growing and sharing within this realm
  • Experience in community~building/development, work within the Co-operative/not for profit sector
  • Experience with Point of Sale Systems and cash handling

PRODUCE LEAD

This is a fast-paced, fun and all encompassing role. You will be positioned to lead the fresh produce portion of the Co-op; this is a position that requires the successful candidate to be very comfortable, and excel, in customer relations and communication. You work closely with management, the Co-op’s kitchen staff, and work directly with the Co-op’s fresh produce producers. Like all staff, you’ll welcome and mentor volunteers into the Co-op, and assist our customers as a priority. The fresh produce component of the Co-op is one of the most important aspects of our Co-op market.


This position can begin as part-time and evolve into full time (35+ hours/week). All applicants must be prepared for this position to be long-term and a possible career path moving forward.


Starting Wage: $20.60/hour starting wage (We are certified Living Wage employers.)


Position Summary: We are a small co-operative and we don’t work in silos. We support one another, share tasks, and jump in when and if there’s need. While this role is positioned throughout the Co-op, the main responsibilities are as follows:

  • The Produce section will be your #1 priority. Freshness, beauty, signage, product information, staff training will encompass your day.
  • Lead Produce procurement, merchandiser, culler/rescuer, producer liaison.
  • Working directly and as a team with our Bounty Box coordinator. Bounty Box is our weekly CSA program.
  • Working directly with Manager(s) in regard to marketing, Member Sales Specials, and Bounty Box promotion.
  • Upholding market operations including. but not limited to, POS and front-line customer service, Espresso Bar, receiving orders.
  • Be creative and innovative in regard to fresh produce education, marketing, programs, and increasing sales and awareness.
  • Collaborate with kitchen staff, welcome and mentor volunteers into the produce section/kitchen, and with food rescue initiatives.
  • Possible opportunities for community teaching and skills sharing.
  • We encourage clear communication to ensure that all tasks are being upheld and balls are not being dropped. Creating efficient systems that work best for you and the staff you work closely with is highly encouraged, and documentation of these systems is essential for succession planning and clear understanding by staff and management. You are not expected to do all of these tasks alone.
