TITLE:  Youth Intern
LOCATION: 1 Crescent Rd., Huntsville, ON
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISORS:  Co-management team
POST DATE: Friday, May 11, 2018
CLOSE DATE: Friday, June 15, 2018
POSITION PERIOD: Monday, June 4th, 2018 – Monday, June 3rd, 2019 (or as required)

Position Summary: Our Youth Intern will primarily be a communictions position, along with several hands-on organizational initiatives, projects and events. The Youth Intern will assist MNGFC’s co-management team with the mapping and relationship-building of Northern Ontario agri-food producers, as well as with developing communications with existing and new MNGFC member-owners. The Intern will work in both a co-operative retail atmosphere and in a private office space to perform numerous clerical tasks as needed.



  • Identify the gaps in northern agri-food production and address potential for new agri-food production
  • Develop producer bios and in-store marketing materials
  • Keep Northern Ontario Procucers and Goods document current
  • Learn and develop skills and work in all aspects of the Co-op’s retail and kitchen components


  • Respond to MNGFC inquiries – telephone, email, social media
  • Co-create MNGFC’s weekly e-newsletter
  • Research community/promotional events and develop budget/feasibility of participation by MNGFC
  • Help maintain MNGFC’s website and social media platforms
  • Co-create MNGFC’s annual signature fundraising/promotional event
  • Compile and continue to update Co-op membership list
  • Research and analyze potential programs, increasing membership numbers
  • Coordinate development and production of printed promotional materials
  • Research potential, relevant grant opportunities for MNGFC (with support)
  • Perform daily co-op administrative duties as assigned by co-managers

QUALIFICATIONS (knowledge, skills, experience)

  • Must be under the age of 30
  • Will have graduated within the last three (3) years from recognized post- secondary institution with preference given (but not limited) to those with a degree, diploma or certificate in: Sustainable/Co-operative Development, Education, Business, Agriculture, Marketing/Advertising, Graphic Design/Art
  • Passion for local food and community development
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and an overall positive attitude towards people and life
  • Proven ability to think out of the box, be creative, work independently and take initiative
  • Intermediate computer skills and ability to work with spreadsheets
  • Graphic Design knowledge (an asset)
  • Knowledge and experience with agricultural production/chains (an asset)
  • Experience working with not-for-profit organizations (an asset)
  • Cannot have previously participated as a youth intern in FedNor’s Northern Ontario Development Program or in any other federal or provincial internship program with pay for a period of six (6) months or more
  • Reside in Northern Ontario (an asset)


  • Wage and Benefits: $35,000
